San Antonio is the only city in the United States, near which an army cantonment is located, that has recognized the necessity of preventative measures for the elimination of mosquitoes. Announcement of this fact was made to Commissioner Lambert by a member of the army sanitary corps, detailed to visit the various cantonment cities and map out plans for eradicating mosquitoes.
Sixty-six college students, both African-American and white, stage a second peaceful demonstration at the Majestic Theater. The demonstration fails to change the theater’s policy on segregation, however.
VIA Metropolitan Transit rolls out its first all-electric buses today, a program funded by a $5 million federal stimulus grant. The three white, green and blue buses, powered by onboard batteries, already are in circulation downtown and follow the red trolley route. Dubbed the Arc, each bus will recharge at a power station at the Robert Thompson Transit Station at the Alamodome. The buses are charged by solar panels at the station or by wind power from CPS Energy.
