San Antonio Public Library
will participate in Tricentennial Commemorative Week during History &
Education Day Wednesday, May 2, from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. Community members
of
all ages are invited to celebrate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering,
Art, and Math) at the library with activities at
all 28 San Antonio Public Library branches and Central
Library. Visitors
will have the chance to learn about chemistry by making slime and elephant
toothpaste; will learn about electricity while making paper circuits; and will
get up close
and personal with caterpillars and chrysalis while
exploring butterfly science.
The Tricentennial
Commission has planned six days of family-friendly events to commemorate San
Antonio’s history and celebrate with the community. Commemorative Week is
slated for May 1 – 6, 2018, honoring the anniversary of the founding of Mission
San Antonio de Valero on May 1, 1718, later known as
The Alamo, and four days later, the creation of
the Presidio San Antonio de
Bexár to protect the new mission. History & Education day is an opportunity
for all residents, especially children, to be immersed in 300 years of history
and begin to build a legacy for the next generation.
