S. N. Heath, general manager of the local S. H. Kress and Company, announced that the Central Building at 311 E. Houston street will be razed to make room for a new $500,000 five-story Kress Building. The new building will have a roof terrace and a dining room for employees. The contract for the construction of the new building will be awarded after the first of the new year.
1985
Officials with National Bancshares Corporation (NBC) are hesitant to talk about a proposed 30-story headquarters to be located at the corner of Soledad and Pecan street, but construction could begin next June. City Council has already agreed to close two streets, Armistead and Salinas Alley, which are inside the project boundaries.

Ground is broken on the Alamodome, located on the former Alamo Iron Works site and adjacent property, on the east side of Interstate 37 and across from the HemisFair Park area.
