San Antonio Public Library reaches One Million Digital Check Outs through OverDrive in Calendar Year 2016

The Scorch Trials: The Maze Runner Series by James Dashner is 1 millionth digital item checked out in 2016

The San Antonio Public Library has joined a prestigious group of public libraries who have reached over one million digital items checked out in calendar year 2016 through OverDrive. Overall, the San Antonio Public Library lent 7.3 million items in fiscal year 2016.

What: Mayor Ivy R. Taylor will conclude the fall 2016 Mayor’s Book Club with a brief discussion of the themes of the book The Fire This Time by Jesmyn Ward, followed by a guided presentation and writing workshop titled “The Extraordinary Stories of (Local) People of Color and Why They Matter.”

Feed Your Mind and Your Body at the San Antonio Public Library

Library partners with San Antonio Food Bank to host the Mobile Mercado at select Library locations

SAN ANTONIO (November 29, 2016) – The San Antonio Public Library has partnered with the San Antonio Food Bank to host the Mobile Mercado, a combination mobile mini-grocery and healthy food truck, at select Library locations. The Mobile Mercado's main focus is to increase access to healthy food with an emphasis on seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables. Clients of the Mobile Mercado will experience samples of culinary tastings led by Certified Chefs or Nutrition Professionals highlighting the benefits of foods available for purchase. WIC food items will be available for sale and Lone Star cards (SNAP) will be accepted. 

San Antonio Public Library Director to Attend National Forum on Closing the Opportunity Gap for Early Readers

Ramiro S. Salazar received personal invitation to attend Library forum in Washington D.C.

SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 30, 2016) —San Antonio Public Library Director Ramiro S. Salazar will travel to Washington D.C. December 1 - 2  to attend a national forum on Closing the Opportunity Gap for Early Readers.  The forum is presented by the Urban Libraries Council and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Salazar was chosen among a select group of leaders from public school systems, public library systems and other national thought leaders to explore a critical education issue: how to ensure that low-income, struggling readers in K-3rd grade are accessing reading support services available via the public library.
