October 2 in San Antonio history...

1941
George Hopkins, former employee at Stinson Field (right), is stuck on top of Devil’s Tower in Wyoming, after parachuting and landing there yesterday morning. A 1000-foot coil of rope dropped to help him descend, missed the target and slithered down the side of the rock formation.  It would have been 200′ too short anyway.  Park officials are discussing the best way to get Hopkins down.  His predicament has set a record for longest time at the top of the perch.

1977
Nine paintings by Renoir and Picasso, worth about $200,000 and taken from the McNay Art Museum in two separate thefts earlier this year, have been returned.

1980
Police raid a northside residence suspected of being a brothel, arresting two 23-year old Houston women under prostitution charges and confiscating a “trick list” of customers. Many of these are suspected to be local governmental officials.
